Manchester United play their third Premier League game in six days on Thursday, with rivals Liverpool visiting Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp’s side currently find themselves sixth in the table – seven points outside the Champions League places.
Meanwhile, Manchester United sit second – ten points behind newly-crowned champions Manchester City and 13 points ahead of Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men handed Man City the title on Tuesday, suffering a 2-1 loss to Leicester City at Old Trafford.
However, that was Man Utd’s first loss in 15 Premier League games and only their second defeat in their previous 29.
Looking at the bigger picture, the Red Devils have only lost five of their 35 league matches this term, recording 20 wins and ten draws along the way.
Having netted 68 goals in the process (1.9 goals per game), Man Utd are the second-highest scorers in the division.
On the flip side, Liverpool head into Thursday’s clash on a six-game unbeaten streak, having clinched four wins and two draws in that time.
Victories over Wolves, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Southampton, along with draws against Leeds and Newcastle, have kept the Reds’ top-four dreams alive.
Still, with only four games left to play this season, Klopp’s men can’t afford to drop any more points between now and the end of the campaign if they want to secure Champions League football.
Following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Southampton, Liverpool have now kept three clean sheets in their last six games and four in their previous nine.
Head-to-head: Man Utd and Liverpool have already faced each other twice in 2021, and the Red Devils remain unbeaten against Klopp’s side this year.
The two sides produced a goalless draw in the Premier League back in January, before Man Utd beat Liverpool 3-2 in the FA Cup the following week.
However, it is worth pointing out that Man Utd have only managed to win one of their last six meetings with the Reds in all competitions.
Team news: Along with Anthony Martial, Dan James and Phil Jones, Harry Maguire is now injured for Man Utd.
Solskjaer is set to make a number of changes on Thursday, having made ten changes to his starting line-up on Tuesday.
As for Liverpool, they are without Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ozan Kabak, Naby Keita, Ben Davies, Caoimhin Kelleher, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi.
Man Utd are expected to beat Liverpool on Thursday. However, the Red Devils’ jam-packed fixture schedule gives Klopp’s men a chance.
