Arsenal and Wolves ready for mid-table showdown
4431

Just one point separates Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League table as the two sides prepare to face off at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners find themselves twelfth after nine games – three places and one point behind ninth-place Wolves.

Arsenal suffered a humiliating defeat just before the international break, losing 3-0 at home to Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta’s men returned from the two-week lay-off with a goalless draw against Leeds, despite playing the majority of the second half with ten men.

However, Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Europa League on Thursday. Goals from Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and Folarin Balogun handed Arteta’s side a 3-0 victory over Molde.

Following a tricky away trip to Elland Road, it’s fair to say that Arsenal will be happy to be playing at home this weekend.

Indeed, the Gunners have won eight of their last 11 home games in the Premier League and have only lost two of their previous 14 home matches in all competitions.

It is also worth pointing out that Arsenal have kept four clean sheets in their last six home games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Wolves are enjoying a promising run, having lost just one of their last six meetings in all competitions.

Following three wins in four games, Wolves lost to Leicester after the international break, before securing a hard-fought draw against Southampton last weekend.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men only recorded seven shots (two on target), while Saints racked up 20 shots (nine on target). But Pedro Neto bagged a late equaliser.

Interestingly, Wolves have an identical goal difference record to Arsenal (–1), with both sides having scored nine goals and conceded ten.

You probably won’t be surprised to hear that Raul Jimenez is Wolves’ top scorer. The Mexican has netted four goals this term, although he has failed to score in his last three appearances.

Head-to-head: Arsenal beat Wolves 2-0 in their previous meeting back in July, with the two sides playing out a 1-1 draw in last season’s reverse fixture.

Looking at the bigger picture, Arsenal have only lost one of their last seven encounters with Wolves (two wins, four draws).

Team news: Arsenal have a host of injury doubts, with Thomas Partey among the group. Nicolas Pepe is suspended following his red card against Leeds.

Conor Coady looks set to return for Wolves, while Romain Saiss is an injury doubt. Long-term absentee Jonny is still sidelined.

Not only is Arsenal’s recent home record good, their recent record against Wolves in also strong. Nuno’s men could struggle to buck that trend.

Forebet predicts that Arsenal will keep a clean sheet on their way to victory over Wolves on Sunday.
