Can Werder Bremen extend unbeaten streak against Koln?
2948

There is only one game taking place in the German Bundesliga on Friday night, with Werder Bremen hosting 1. FC Koln at Weserstadion.

Werder Bremen currently sit ninth in the table on nine points – seven points ahead of sixteenth-place Koln.

Weder have only lost one of their six Bundesliga games this season, although they have only managed to win two.

Bremen head into Friday’s clash on the back of three straight 1-1 draws against Freiburg, Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Following victories over Schalke and Arminia Bielefeld, Werder are enjoying a five-game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga.

However, manager Florian Kohfeldt will know that his side must start turning draws into wins in order to avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation battle.

Having said that, Bremen have won just two of their previous 19 home games in the Bundesliga and have failed to score in ten of their last 15 league games at Weserstadion.

On the flip side, Koln have failed to win any of their six Bundesliga games this term, picking up two draws and four defeats.

Koln ended a run of three straight losses by securing back-to-back draws against Frankfurt and Stuttgart, but they quickly returned to losing ways last time out.

In fairness, Koln put up a good fight against Bayern Munich. But they only managed to enjoy 37% possession and were eventually beaten 2-1.

Only Schalke and Mainz sit below Koln in the table, while only four clubs have conceded more goals in the division.

Head-to-head: Werder crushed Koln 6-1 in their previous meeting, although Koln beat Bremen 1-0 in the reverse fixture last season.

The recent head-to-head record has been fairly even between these two sides, with both teams claiming two wins and two draws in the last six encounters.

Team news: Bremen could be without as many as six players on Friday, with Davie Selke, Felix Agu, Ludwig Augustinsson, Niclas Fullkrug, Ole Kauper and Patrick Erras all doubts.

Meanwhile, Koln are likely to be without injured trio Florian Kainz, Jonas Hector and Robert Voloder for the trop to Weserstadion.

It is worth pointing out that both teams have scored in 16 of Koln’s previous 18 games in all competitions.

It is also worth considering that each of Werder’s last four Bundesliga games have produced under 2.5 goals.

With those statistics in mind, Forebet predicts that Weder Bremen and Koln are likely to play out a low-scoring draw.
