October 17, 2010 was the last time Everton defeated Liverpool. That game was played 10 years to the day that the Merseyside clubs take to the Goodison Park pitch this Saturday on Premier League matchday 5.

Everton head into matchday 5 sitting atop the Premier League with 12 points from 12 possible. Carlo Ancelotti’s team have been excellent outscoring opponents 12-5.

The Toffees have not beaten Liverpool in 22 straight games in all competitions. Saturday’s game may be the best-ever opportunity over the last decade to get a win.

Liverpool are coming off of an embarrassing loss to Aston Villa, 7-2, on matchday 4. The Reds were outplayed from the first minute against Aston Villa and the defence was taken advantage of repeatedly.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has big decisions to make as centre-back Joe Gomez was repeatedly at fault against Aston Villa. He could play Fabinho next to Virgil van Dijk while placing Thiago and Jordan Henderson in the midfield.

Thiago is back after recovering from COVID-19 as is Sadio Mane. Henderson successfully recovered from a knee injury and played for England versus Denmark on Wednesday. Those three players missed the game versus Aston Villa.

Klopp could put centre-back Joel Matip into the side. He missed the first four games of the season through injury. Even with players missing on matchday 4, Liverpool should not have conceded seven times to Aston Villa.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is ruled out of the game with a long-term shoulder injury. Adrian will start but opinions of the Spanish shot-stopper are not high currently after recent poor displays.

Ancelotti has 10 players on his current injury list. Mason Holgate and Jonjo Kenny are both ruled out. The latter will be a big miss for the manager as Kenny’s play in defence has been good thus far.

Jarrad Braithwaite is also ruled out of the fixture. Meanwhile, Seamus Coleman, Allan, and Yerry Mina are all hoping to have a place in the starting XI as they recover from injury.

Everton’s last three games ended with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals scored. They have not played the best defence, rather they focused on outscoring their opponents. Three of Liverpool’s four league games saw over 2.5 goals scored and both teams finding the back of the net.

Saturday’s lunchtime kick off is destined to be a high-scoring game. These teams will get after each other and both will find the back of the net.

Liverpool will edge their Merseyside rivals and claim a victory. Everton will sink to a 23rd game without a win versus Liverpool.
