In-form Burnley host Brighton on final day

Brighton & Hove Albion make the long trip up to Turf Moor to face Burnley on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

The visitors have already secured their top-flight status for another year, while the Europa League spots are just out of reach for the hosts.

Ninth-place Burnley have been immense since the campaign got back underway. In fact, they have both outstanding since January.

The Clarets were languishing just above the drop zone at the turn of the year, but a remarkable run of one defeat in their last 15 league games has propelled the club up the table.

Burnley returned to action with a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City. But since then, victories over Watford, Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Norwich have kept them in the top half.

It’s also worth pointing out that Burnley have claimed impressive draws against Sheffield United, Liverpool, and Wolves in recent weeks.

Unfortunately, the Clarets’ poor start to the season means they are four points shy of seventh-place Tottenham. But the signs look promising for Sean Dyche’s team next season.

Meanwhile, back-to-back draws against Southampton and Newcastle mean that Brighton will avoid relegation this term.

The Seagulls have been flirting with the drop throughout the campaign. But victories over Arsenal and Norwich since the resumption have kept the club afloat.

It has by no means been easy for Brighton. Indeed, they have only won two of their 17 league games in 2020. However, Graham Potter’s men have done enough to get them over the line.

French forward Neal Maupay has been pivotal to Brighton’s survival bid, racking up ten goals and two assists in his debut top-flight campaign.

Head-to-head: It’s fair to say that there has been very little to separate Burnley and Brighton in recent years. In their previous eight meetings, there have been six draws.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in August, and a similar scoreline is expected this time around.

Team news: Burnley will be without Ashley Barnes, Ben Mee, Ben Gibson, Jack Cork, and Matthew Lowton for Sunday’s game. But Charlie Taylor could make a comeback from injury.

Steven Alzate and Jose Izquierdo will miss the final game of the season for Brighton, although Alireza Jahanbakhsh should be fit after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Neither side has anything left to play for this term, but both managers will want their teams to finish the season on a high.

Looking at the recent head-to-head record between Burnley and Brighton, Forebet predicts that another low-scoring draw is on the cards.
