Juventus lead Serie A by seven points over their nearest rival Atalanta. The Bianconeri will hope to take another step closer to the Scudetto with a win over third-placed Lazio on Monday night.
Lazio were title contenders prior to COVID-19 halting the Serie A season in March. Their momentum was stopped by the hiatus and they have not been able to find the same form. Lazio are winless in their last four games and lost three straight games during that time.
The Biancocelesti are eight points off of Atalanta but are now in third-place thanks to their winless run. Atalanta moved in front of them over the weekend and could remain in the runners-up position.
The two clubs have met twice already this season with Lazio winning both matches. Lazio claimed a 3-1 league victory thanks to goals from Luiz Felipe, Serge Milinkovic-Savic, and Felipe Caicedo. The capital club came from a goal down to claim the win after Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the first half.
Lazio again won 3-1 when the teams met in the Supercoppa Italiana in December. Luis Alberto and Paulo Dybala both scored in the first to send the game into the half level. Senad Lulic and Danilo Cataldi found the back of the net in the second half to give Lazio the trophy.
The Biancocelesti have a great record against Juventus and could claim another win when the sides meet on Monday. If Lazio can get a victory it would cut Juventus’s lead to five with four games to go. More importantly, Atalanta could cut the Juventus lead to four points.
Juventus have tallied the most home points in Serie A with 44 from 48 possible. They have not lost at home this season but did drop points to Atalanta in their last game at the Allianz Arena.
Lazio have the fourth-best away points total of 30 from 48 possible. They have dipped in form over the course of their last four away matches going winless in three. The shocking part of Lazio’s capitulation has been the teams that have taken points from them.
Lecce defeated Lazio 2-1 and Udinese claimed a nil-nil draw. Based on Lazio’s poor form after the restart, it is easy to believe Juventus will be able to take maximum points. If Lazio can claim a third win of the season against Juventus, however, it will make the title race more interesting.
