Goals should feature when Cologne host Frankfurt

There have been some interesting results across the European leagues upon their return to action following the lockdown, not least Mainz beating Borussia Dortmund in midweek, but the goals have continued to flow and this upcoming fixture between Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt should be no exception.
Although they still occupy 13th place in the Bundesliga, Saturday’s hosts, Cologne, are seemingly stuck in free-fall as the home side have now failed to win any of their last eight matches overall in the German top flight.
This alarming slump in form is in stark contrast to Cologne’s previous sequence of results which saw the hosts pick up eight wins in their preceding 10 matches, so they’ll be keen to put an end to this worrying lean period in this encounter.
Five defeats from these last eight matches will have done little for Cologne’s confidence but the goals have featured on a prominent basis with seven of these last eight matches resulting in over 2.5 goals.
In addition, 12 of Cologne’s 16 matches at home have also produced three goals or more.
Eintracht Frankfurt moved up into the top half of the Bundesliga and 9th place after picking up a fourth win in five matches with their midweek 2-1 home win against Schalke, which followed earlier wins against Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen and Hertha Berlin.
With two league matches remaining of their Bundesliga campaign and five points behind 6th placed Wolfsburg, Saturday’s visitors, Eintracht Frankfurt still have an outside chance of claiming the last European spot from under Wolfsburg’s noses, but Frankfurt must take all three points at Cologne to even have a chance.
Goals have also followed Eintracht Frankfurt in recent times as the visitors have been involved in matches resulting over 2.5 goals in 11 of their last 12 matches overall in the Bundesliga, and as their need for the win here is extreme, further goals look likely in this clash.
In addition, throw in the fact that 13 of Eintracht Frankfurt’s 16 away matches to date have resulted in over 2.5 goals, and you can see why the prospect of further goals being scored in this upcoming tussle at the RheinEnergieStadion look pretty high.
To whet our appetites even further, the previous two meetings between these two sides ended in 4-2 wins each for Cologne (away) and Eintracht Frankfurt (home).
