Slutsk can keep run going against Vitebsk
2426

Slutsk bounced back from their recent 1-0 defeat at home to last season’s Vysshaya Liga title winners, Dinamo Brest, when they secured an impressive win away from home at Isloch Minsk on Sunday.

A 3-2 win on the road at Isloch handed Slutsk two wins from their opening three matches of this new Belarus top flight campaign and has helped lift Saturday’s hosts up into an early 2nd place in the Vysshaya Liga ahead of this weekend’s action.

A convincing opening day 3-1 home win over Slavia Mozyr set Slutsk on their way in the early stages of this new season and having won 4 of their last 5 matches overall in the Belarus top flight, the hosts will be looking to press on with another three points in this upcoming clash against Vitebsk.

In addition, Slutsk have lost just 1 of their last 5 matches on home turf at their Stadyen Haradski which was to the current title holders of the Vysshaya Liga.

However, an additional 2-1 win over Neman Grodno towards the end of last season along with a resounding 3-0 win over Saturday’s opponents, Vitebsk, in the last meeting at home back in August of last year will give Slutsk plenty of belief here.

Vitebsk also captured their second win of this new Belarus top flight campaign last weekend when they registered a 1-0 win away from home at newcomers, Smolevichi, which has helped lift the visitors up into the top half of the Vysshaya Liga.

The visitors now sit in an early 7th place in the domestic top flight ladder although it should be noted that these two wins to date this term have been picked up against two of the current bottom three teams in the division - Gorodeya and Smolevichi.

Aside from these two victories, these have been Vitebsk’s only successes in their last 8 matches overall, a poor sequence of results which have seen the visitors lose 5 of these 8 matches, while on the road, Vitebsk have lost 3 of their last 4 matches on their travels.

Earlier defeats at Dnyapro, Dinamo Brest and Neman Grodno (all to nil) doesn’t inspire much confidence in Vitebsk ahead of their trip to face Slutsk this Saturday, and indeed, their hosts look the more likely to take the spoils in this one.
