Spurs and Man City set for high-scoring thriller

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to claim their first Premier League win over Manchester City since 2016 when the two teams face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side come into this game in fine form and are unbeaten in their previous five league outings.

Man City claimed back-to-back victories over Sheffield United and Everton before thrashing Aston Villa 6-1. City were then held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace but bounced back with another win over Sheff Utd.

Despite losing their most recent game to rivals Manchester United, City progressed into the EFL Cup final with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Guardiola’s men find themselves second in the Premier League – three points ahead of third-place Leicester City and a whopping 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham currently sit sixth in the standings – level with Man Utd and Wolves on 34 points. But they are still six points off the Champions League places.

Spurs are yet to get going under Jose Mourinho and come into this game having won just one of their previous five league matches.

Defeats to Southampton and Liverpool earlier in the month were followed by a goalless draw with Watford before Spurs beat Norwich City in the previous round.

Still, Tottenham face an FA Cup fourth-round replay following a 1-1 draw with Saints last time out. Son Heung-min put Spurs ahead at St. Mary’s, only for Sofiane Boufal to snatch a late equaliser.

Man City last faced Spurs on Matchday 2 when the two teams played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Etihad. Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero netted for City, while Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura got on the scoresheet for Spurs.

Tottenham have beaten Man City once in their previous eight attempts – a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash last season.

Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Ben Davies remain long-term absentees for Spurs, so Mourinho’s starting line-up could feature new boys Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn.

On the other hand, Guardiola almost has a full-strength squad to choose from this weekend with Leroy Sane the club’s only notable injury concern.

This fixture has produced plenty of goals in recent times, so we’re likely to see another high-scoring encounter this time around.

Forebet predicts that Man City will get the better of Tottenham with both teams scoring over 1.5 goals.
