Real Madrid Could Move Top with a Win
3207

We have a full mid-week fixture list to look forward to in Spain this week and Real Madrid will be hoping it ends with them moving to the top of the La Liga table.  Zinedine Zidane’s team host Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night and the fans will be expecting a good win for the hosts.

Real Madrid begin this round of fixtures in second place on 11 points. Osasuna are in 10th place and looking to cement a position in the top half of the league.

Zidane was under pressure going into the match at Sevilla on Sunday night but his team came away with a vital 1-0 win.  A defeat would have seen the Frenchman under increased pressure but the win has propelled them up to second in the table.

It was the perfect response to the tame 3-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.  Trends show Real Madrid have remained undefeated in their five league games this season, winning three and drawing two.

The wins have come at home to Levante and away to Celta Vigo and Sevilla.  The draws have been 1-1 at home to Real Valladolid and 2-2 away to Villarreal.

Real Madrid have won six of their last eight home La Liga matches and scored two or more goals in those six games.  However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four on home soil.

Osasuna travel to the Santiago Bernabeu having remained undefeated this season. They have won only one of their five La Liga games and that was on the opening weekend of the season at Leganes.  The 1-0 win has been followed by four straight draws.

Osasuna have picked up a point at home against Eibar, Barcelona and Real Betis, the latter of which was on the weekend in a 0-0 draw.  They also held Real Valladolid to a 1-1 draw away from home last weekend.

Trends show Osasuna have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their five games this season.  There have been under 1.5 goals scored in three of the matches with only the 2-2 draw with Barcelona being an exciting match in terms of goals being scored.

Team news and Real Madrid are still without the injured duo of Luka Modric and Marco Asensio.  They also have doubts over the fitness of Isco and Marcelo.

Osasuna travel without Enrique Barja and Unai García Lugea who both have long term knee injuries.  Darko Brasanac, Javi Martinez and Inigo Perez are rated as doubtful.

Osasuna have made a solid start to the season but this is going to be their most difficult test to date.  Real Madrid have been far from their best this season but should have enough on home soil to take maximum points from this game.  However, we could still be looking at a narrow win.
