Spurs Hope to Build on Draw at Man City

Spurs Hope to Build on Draw at Man City
2360

There are two matches which kick-off at 16:30 on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League, one of which takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.  Tottenham Hotspur play host to Newcastle United in a game the hosts believe they will win.

Tottenham Hotspur come into the match in 6th place in the Premier League, with 4 points from their two games played.  Newcastle United on the other hand are yet to pick up a point this season and they find themselves in the relegation zone.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team found themselves 1-0 down on the opening weekend of the season to Aston Villa.  They required late goals to seal maximum points in a game they were expected to win comfortably.  However, better was to come as last weekend they managed to hold Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a great result for Spurs and they will be hoping to build on that by winning this home match.  Trends show Spurs have won seven of their last ten home Premier League games and they will be hoping to make their new stadium a fortress this season.

Spurs have seen over 2.5 goals in each of their last three league matches and have won by 2 or more goals in four of their last eight on home soil.

Newcastle United have struggled at the start of the new season under the guidance of Steve Bruce. The Magpies started with a home fixture against Arsenal and lost the game 1-0.  They then travelled to newly promoted Norwich City and conceded 3 goals in a 3-1 defeat.  It was a disappointing performance from Newcastle United, at both ends of the pitch and they will need to improve dramatically to get something from this match.

Trends show Newcastle United have a bad away record and they have won just two of their last twelve Premier League games on the road. Newcastle United have found the back of the net in each of their last four away league matches but could find the Spurs defence difficult to break down.

Looking ahead to the team news and Spurs welcome back Son Heung-Min from suspension and the South Korean could go straight back into the starting XI.  Juan Foyth also returns from suspension but the defender is currently injured and is joined on the treatment table by Dele Alli and Ryan Sessegnon.

Newcastle United travel to London without the injured trio of DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu.  They also have doubts over the fitness of Dwight Gayle, Jack Colback and Allan Saint-Maximin.

This game has a home win written all over it.  Newcastle United were poor last weekend and Spurs fans will be hoping to see their team score a few goals and keep a clean sheet in a comprehensive win.
