Barcelona can take another big step towards the La Liga title and possible treble on Tuesday night as they travel to play Deportivo Alaves.

With games running out, Barcelona know a win would move them to within touching distance of the title while Alaves are clinging on to the hope of a Europa League place.

It has been a great season for Alaves, there is no doubting that and they find themselves in 8th place ahead of this game.  However, their recent form has given some cause for concern and having been contesting for a place in Europe, they have dropped off the pace a little.

Trends show Deportivo Alavés have won only one of their last seven matches in all competitions and have failed to win any of their last five. There have been defeats to Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Espanyol plus draws with Leganes and Real Valladolid, all of which have come in La Liga.

However, Alaves are not easy to beat at home and trends show they have lost only five of their last thirty-two home matches in all competitions, including one of the last six.  That being said, Alaves have struggled to pick up wins recently and they have failed to win any of their last five at home in La Liga.

There has been only one defeat but four draws and both teams have scored in six of their last eight games in all competitions.

Barcelona took another step towards the title on the weekend as they beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at home. It was not a vintage performance by any means but it got the job done and Barcelona are on a run of twenty games unbeaten, if you remove the Supercopa de Catalunya from the list of results.

Away form is good and trends show Barcelona have lost only two of their last thirty-five away La Liga matches.  They have won seven of their last ten on the road in Spain but have failed to win in their last two attempts having been held to draws by Villarreal and Huesca.

Both were matches of different styles, with the first ending 4-4 and the second ending 0-0.  We are unlikely to see Barcelona fail to score again in this match.

Looking ahead to the team news and Alaves are without Burgui who is injured and also have doubts over the fitness of Andrei Lupu.  Every other player should be available for former Barcelona man, Abelardo.

Barcelona have Thomas Vermaelen back in training but this match is likely to come too soon for the Belgian.  Rafinha is out for the rest of the season and Barcelona’s selection will be based on any rotation Ernesto Valverde feels he needs to make.

The visitors come into this game as the huge favourites.  They have not had things all their own way in recent away La Liga games but with the title edging closer, they are unlikely to make any mistakes at an out of form Alaves.
