Race for Champions League Football Continues as Monaco Meet Lille in Ligue 1
3986

The race for automatic Champions League qualification is heating up in France and the excitement continues this week.

The game between Monaco and Lille will be played on the 24th of April at the Stade Louis II. The hosts begin this round of games in 2nd place on 55 points while the visitors are in 4th place on 52 points.

Monaco come into the match having recorded an excellent 2-0 win at Brest on the weekend in Ligue 1.

Monaco opened the scoring in the 40th minute to lead 1-0 at half time and quickly doubled their advantage after the break. However, Monaco lost their discipline towards the end of the game and had two players sent off.

The victory at Brest means Monaco are undefeated in their last 7 fixtures, all of which have been played in Ligue 1.

There have been victories over Lens, Strasbourg, and Metz away plus Rennes at home. Monaco also picked up a point in draws against Paris Saint-Germain and Lorient at home.

Trends show Monaco have been performing significantly better when playing on the road.

They are undefeated in 4 of their last 5 Ligue 1 games at home but have recorded just a single victory in those 5 matches.

There have been 3 draws and 1 defeat. Monaco have seen under 2.5 goals scored in 6 of their 9 most recent home Ligue 1 fixtures and both teams have scored in 4 of their last 6 league games on home soil.

Lille travel to the Stade Louis II on the back of a 1-0 home win over Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on the weekend.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 12th minute and Lille prevented the visitors from scoring to take maximum points.

The win over Strasbourg was the first win for Lille in their last 3 attempts. They lost both legs of the Europa Conference League quarterfinal 2-1 against Aston Villa.

Statistics show Lille have been tough to beat in recent Ligue 1 matches and they are undefeated in each of their last 6 games.

They are also undefeated in 9 of their last 12 away Ligue 1 fixtures but have recorded only 3 wins in those 12 matches. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in 8 of Lille’s last 11 away Ligue 1 games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Monaco are without the suspended trio of Wilfried Singo, Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Thilo Kehrer. Aleksandr Golovin and Ismail Jakobs are injured.

Lille make the trip to Monaco without the injured duo of Andrej Ilic and Samuel Umtiti.

We expect this to be a close game, with under 2.5 goals scored. The form of the two teams home and away respectively suggests a draw to be the most likely outcome and we have a correct score prediction of 1-1.
