Forebet is back to check in on the title-chasing Sporting Lisbon this weekend by looking at the trends of this high-scoring Liga Portugal side by grouping together the analysis, data and mathematics for their away trip to Moreirense.

The football predictions involving the ‘Big Three’ in Portugal tend to only go one way.

Now, Sporting head into this game having racked up a stunning tally of 31 goals in 2024 alone and from just the past eight games - this puts them as one of Europe’s top scorers across all of the top flight leagues this calendar year.

This run started with a sensational 5-1 win over Estoril Praia where Marcus Edwards was the hero with a brace. Pedro Goncalves and Viktor Gyokeres were the superstars in the next win with a brace each against Tondela.

A 3-0 win over Chaves would come before a 5-2 victory on the road against Vizela. Sporting did, however, then suffer their first defeat of 2024 in a Taca da Liga semi-finals loss to Braga.

Sporting did, on the other hand, record the highest-scoring win in Portugal's top flight this season the following game, as Sebastian Coates netted a brace alongside two from Francisco Trincao and Gyokeres. Goncalves and Geny Catamo also scored.

The club's trends of clean sheets and high-scoring wins continued into February, as they managed to beat UD Leiria in the quarter-finals of the Taca de Portugal 3-0 before getting revenge over Braga back in Liga Portugal by thrashing them 5-0 last weekend.

Five different goalscorers were in on the act that day, including Gyokeres and his 16th league goal of the season - he now has 23 goals in 27 appearances across three competitions in his debut season for Sporting.

The club also got a 3-1 advantage away to Young Boys in the Europa League during the week ahead of the second playoffs leg.

Moreirense, however, are having an impressive season in their own way, in what is their first season back in Liga Portugal after relegation two seasons back.

The club have 10 wins from 21 games and are only behind Braga in fourth by five points. They also returned to winning ways by beating Chaves at home last weekend.

Forebet predicts a win for Sporting and for the game to see over 2.5 goals for the eighth time in the past nine games involving the Lisbon side.
