Ghana Face a Tricky Test Against Cape Verdеon Matchday 1
1886

The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off this weekend and Ghana will get their campaign going once again with a meeting against an impressive Cape Verde, who have been on the rise in African football in recent years.

It’s been a struggle for Ghana within this period too as the club finished in last place of their Group C campaign at the last Africa Cup of Nations with no wins on the board, two losses and a draw against Gabon being their only point on the board.

Ghana would also fail to qualify for the World Cup thereafter, and in reality, there is not much hope from fans heading into this AFCON, especially given the talent of sides like Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and the host nation, Ivory Coast.

Alongside these two in this group sits Mohamed Salah and his Egypt side and Mozambique, which now makes this game a seemingly must-win for Ghana, if they are to top the group, In truth, neither side are likely to defeat Egypt, so all three points here could be crucial.

Form has not been great for Ghana in the past year, and they head into this game off the back of their warm up game with Namibia being a lacklustre 0-0 draw where the nation saw just three shots on target.

Ghana were also stunned by Comoros in the World Cup qualifiers in their last competitive game back in November. They did defeat Madagascar 1-0 just before this, however, as Inaki Williams stole the show with a 96th-minute winner.

However, with losses to the United States by a 4-0 scoreline and a 2-0 defeat to Mexico, it means just one win in the past four games.

They did manage to defeat Liberia before this, however, while Ghana also finished their Group E AFCON qualifying campaign without a loss.

Ghana would win three games and draw three times as well. As for Cape Verde, they finished second in Group B in the AFCON qualifiers with two losses on the board and one point behind first-placed Burkina Faso.

This also saw the nation win three games, beating Eswatini twice alongside a victory over Togo.

Cape Verde were beaten 2-0 by Tunisia in their warm up game, however, while they managed to draw with Angola 0-0 and also defeat Eswatini in their World Cup qualifiers.

Forebet predicts a draw here and the game to see over 2.5 goals.
