The First Bundesliga Games of the Year Sees a Cracker Between Leipzig and Frankfurt
2133

Two sides in the top two will clash with one another this weekend as RB Leipzig play hosts to Eintracht Frankfurt at the Red Bull Arena where the home team are sitting two spots above the away side.

It’s been a relatively decent campaign for Leipzig so far with the club also into the knockout rounds of the Champions League after finishing second in Group G to Manchester City.

In fact, the only games the club lost in that group were to the champions of Europe, as Leipzig bagged 13 goals and let in 10.

Back in the Bundesliga, the club are sitting in fourth and adrift of Bayern Munich in second place by five points, although the latter does have a game in hand.

Leipzig have won 10 games so far and already seemingly have one foot in the top four already secured with them six points ahead of a Borussia Dortmund side that have only won seven matches.

Marco Rose's men have also let in only 17 goals, which is only bettered by Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen.

This is also the first Bundesliga gameweek since before Christmas due to the winter break. During the time off, Leipzig met with St. Gallen and narrowly beat them 1-0.

The club have also loaned Timo Werner to Tottenham Hotspur this January transfer window while they haven’t been playing.

Prior to the winter break, Leipzig drew 1-1 with Werder Bremen, as Lois Openda bagged yet another goal in what has been a remarkable season for him.

The club's last win came against Hoffenheim, where Lukas Klostermann, Emil Forsberg and Mohamed Simakan all netted a goal each.

As for Frankfurt, they lost 5-2 to Freiburg in their friendly during the international break, although they did manage to smash Bayern 5-1 back in early December in what was the champions' first and only defeat so far in the Bundesliga.

On the other hand, it was a poor December in general for Frankfurt, as they were booted out of the DFB-Pokal at the round of 16 stage by Saarbrucken 2-0, as they also lost to Aberdeen in the Europa Conference League and Leverkusen back on the domestic front.

Nevertheless, the loss to Aberdeen still meant Frankfurt edged into the knockout rounds.

The away side are three points behind Dortmund ahead of this one and nine behind Leipzig. Forebet predicts a home win and over 2.5 goals
