The standout tie of the FA Cup third round sees Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool lock horns at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Funnily enough, these two sides met in the league on December 23, playing out an eventful 1-1 draw at Anfield.

With just five points separating table-topping Liverpool and fourth-placed Arsenal in the top-flight standings, Sunday’s showdown is destined to be a thriller.

Mikel Arteta’s men head into Sunday’s clash on the back of successive defeats, having lost top West Ham United (2-0) and Fulham (2-1).

When you look at the bigger picture, Arsenal have managed to win just one of their last six matches across all competitions, recording two draws and three losses.

Still, the Gunners can take confidence from their strong home form, as they have suffered a solitary defeat in 13 matches at the Emirates this season.

Having won seven of their previous eight home games – scoring 21 goals while keeping five clean sheets – Arsenal will back themselves to reach the fourth round.

Liverpool, meanwhile, secured a 4-2 victory over Newcastle United last time out, racking up 62% possession and 34 shots, with Mohamed Salah bagging a brace.

That win extended the Reds’ unbeaten run to five games in all competitions, with three victories and two draws coming since their last loss.

It is also worth noting that Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost just three of their 29 games this season, suffering a solitary defeat in 20 Premier League outings.

Better still, Liverpool boast the best defensive record in the top flight, while only Manchester City have scored more goals than Klopp’s side.

Head-to-head: Thanks to last month’s 1-1 draw, Arsenal are unbeaten in their last three matches against Liverpool, although the previous two meetings ended all square.

Since losing the 2001 final, the Gunners have won their last three FA Cup games against the Reds, scoring five goals while conceding twice.

Team news: Arsenal are currently without Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Mohamed Elneny, Thomas Partey and Fabio Vieira for various reasons.

As for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo are on international duty, while Dominik Szoboszlai, Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara, Andy Robertson and Joel Matip are injured.

Given that three of the past six meetings between Arsenal and Liverpool have ended in a draw, Sunday’s showdown looks destined to be a close-fought battle.

Forebet predicts that Arsenal and Liverpool will serve up a low-scoring draw at the Emirates, with both teams netting under 1.5 goals.
