Crystal Palace aiming to halt seven-game winless run at expense of Chelsea
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace - 27/12/2023

Chelsea welcome fellow strugglers Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as both sides aim to climb the Premier League table.
Following a run of three defeats in four games, Mauricio Pochettino’s side find themselves 10th – four points above 15th-placed Crystal Palace.
With the Eagles sitting just six points outside the relegation zone, both clubs will be desperate to pick up a positive result at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Christmas Eve, with Christopher Nkunku scoring a 96th-minute consolation goal.
The Blues have now lost three of their last four Premier League clashes, with defeats to Manchester United and Everton preceding Sunday’s failure.
When you look at the bigger picture, no team has suffered more Premier League defeats than Chelsea in 2023, underlining the club’s problems both on and off the pitch.
Despite the crazy amount of money spent on big-name players over the past two years, the Blues find themselves 14 points shy of the top four after 18 matches.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, recorded a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, conceding an 82nd-minute goal after Jordan Ayew’s first-half opener.
Consequently, the Eagles head into Wednesday’s showdown on a seven-game winless run, having recorded three draws and four losses since their last victory.
Worse still, Roy Hodgson’s men have managed to win just one of their previous 11 Premier League clashes, defeating Burnley back in early November.
It is worth noting, however, that Palace have enjoyed plenty of success on the road this season, winning three and drawing three of their nine away league outings.
Head-to-head: Remarkably, Chelsea have won each of their last 12 meetings with Crystal Palace across all competitions, scoring over 2.5 goals on five occasions.
The Eagles’ last Premier League victory over the Blues came back in 2017. Since then, Chelsea have racked up 11 consecutive league wins in this fixture.
Team news: Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez and Enzo Fernandez are all injured for Chelsea. Plus, Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer are suspended.
As for Crystal Palace, they are currently without Odsonne Edouard, Rob Holding, Sam Johnstone, Joel Ward and Cheik Doucoure due to injury.
Although Chelsea have struggled for consistency this season, Pochettino’s men shouldn’t struggle to overcome off-form Crystal Palace.
Forebet predicts that Chelsea and Crystal Palace will combine for over 2.5 goals at Stamford Bridge, with the hosts outscoring the visitors.
