Eight teams remain in the 2023-24 Carabao Cup tournament. On Wednesday night, the winners of the 2021-22 trophy, Liverpool, will face off with West Ham United at Anfield.

The winner will move into the final four where the likes of Everton, Fulham, Port Vale, Middlesbrough, Chelsea, or Newcastle United could be waiting.

Wednesday’s EFL Cup quarterfinal does not come at a good time for Liverpool. The Reds are second in the Premier League and preparing to face off with league leader Arsenal on Saturday at Anfield.

The match with West Ham comes just days after a disappointing nil-nil home draw with Manchester United in the league. Moreover, the injuries are piling up for manager Jurgen Klopp.

David Moyes’ West Ham, on the other hand, are fresh off a 3-0 win over Wolverhampton in the league. The Hammers are six points off the top five.

Liverpool have a strong record against West Ham, recording five wins and one loss in their last six encounters in all competitions.

The Reds won each of their seven three games versus West Ham played at Anfield. The last three games were won by 1-0, 1-0, and 3-1 scores.

Both clubs entered the Carabao Cup in the third round. Liverpool defeated Leicester City 3-1 at Anfield, coming from behind.

The Reds then went to Bournemouth and came away with a 2-1 victory thanks to a late Darwin Nunez goal.

West Ham defeated third division Lincoln City 1-0 away to start the tournament. The Hammers then shocked Arsenal 3-1 at the London Stadium in round No. 4. Despite the score being 3-1, it wasn’t that close.

Moyes’ only injury issue is Michail Antonio. The striker is expected to miss the game following a knee injury.

Otherwise, Moyes will have a fully fit team to pick from. Expect the Scottish manager to pick a very strong squad featuring Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen.

Klopp watched midfielder Ryan Gravenberch limp off the pitch on Sunday against United. He becomes another injury casualty for the German manager.

Centre-back Joel Matip, midfielder Thiago Alcantara, and full-back Andrew Robertson are all ruled out with long-term injuries. Diogo Jota is also ruled out.

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister could be fit for a place on the bench. However, he may not be risked with Arsenal arriving at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool won their last seven games in all competitions against West Ham at home. Wednesday’s match should be their eighth straight win over the Hammers at Anfield.

The attack should ignite at home, with the energy high. Mohamed Salah scored 10 goals in 13 career matches versus West Ham and could add an 11th to his record. The Reds should ease to the semifinals with a 3-1 win.
