The EFL Cup quarter-finals dish up an all-Premier League clash on Tuesday, as Chelsea welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge.

The two sides are separated by seven points in the top-flight table, with 10th-placed Chelsea trailing sixth-placed Newcastle.

Both teams claimed convincing wins at the weekend, so Chelsea and Newcastle will be eager to build further momentum and progress in the EFL Cup.

Chelsea secured a 2-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson.

Not only did the Blues enjoy 78% possession at Stamford Bridge, but they also racked up 15 shots, limiting the Blades to a solitary attempt on target.

That said, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have not been in good form of late, as they have lost three of their previous five matches, conceding 10 goals in the process.

Chelsea’s EFL Cup campaign has gone smoothly, however, with victories coming against AFC Wimbledon, Brighton & Hove Albion and Blackburn Rovers.

As for Newcastle, they claimed a 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, courtesy of second-half goals from Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn.

Like Chelsea, the Magpies dominated their previous opponents, racking up 71% possession and 27 shots against the Cottagers, who were reduced to 10 men on 22 minutes.

That victory ended a run of three straight defeats for Eddie Howe’s men, who lost to Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan earlier this month.

Impressively, Newcastle booked their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals with clean-sheet wins against Manchester City and Manchester United.

Head-to-head: Last month, Newcastle thrashed Chelsea 4-1 in the Premier League, with Howe's side extending their unbeaten run against the Blues to three games.

Chelsea and Newcastle last met in the EFL Cup during the 2010-11 season, with the Magpies snatching a crazy 4-3 victory on that occasion.

Team news: Chelsea’s injury list contains Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Robert Sanchez, Ben Chilwell, Romeo Lavia, Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka.

On the flip side, Newcastle are currently without Sandro Tonali, Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Fabian Schar, Joelinton and Matt Targett.

Given what happened when these two sides met last month, Newcastle will be confident of advancing to the semi-finals.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle will notch a high-scoring win at Stamford Bridge, scoring over 3.5 goals on their way to victory.
