The final game of the weekend in the Italian Serie A takes place on the 18th of December as Atalanta welcome Salernitana to the Gewiss Stadium.

The hosts begin this round of fixtures in 8th place on 23 points while the visitors are bottom of the table with only 8 points to their name.

Atalanta come into the game having recorded a comfortable 4-0 win at Rakow Czestochowa in the final group stage match of the Europa League.

It took only 14 minutes for Atalanta to open the scoring and they doubled their lead 12 minutes later.

Atalanta scored their third goal in the 72nd minute and added a fourth at the end of the match. The win saw Atalanta finish top of the group.

The victory over Rakow Czestochowa was the second win in succession for Atalanta following the good 3-2 home win over AC Milan in Serie A last weekend.

However, they have won only 2 of their 6 most recent fixtures in all competitions, with draws against Udinese away in Serie A and Sporting Lisbon at home in the Europa League.

Atalanta have also tasted defeat against Napoli at home and Torino away in Serie A.

Trends show Atalanta have won only 1 of their 5 most recent Serie A games but they are undefeated in 7 of their last 9 league matches at home.

Over 2.5 goals were seen in Atalanta's last 3 home matches in Serie A.

Salernitana travel to the Gewiss Stadium on the back of a 2-1 home defeat by Bologna in Serie A last weekend.

Bologna scored the opening goal after only 9 minutes and added a second goal 11 minutes later to take early command of the match. Salernitana pulled one back in the 70th minute but could not find the equaliser.

The defeat against Bologna means Salernitana have won only 2 of their 16 fixtures in all competitions this season. They have won 1 of their 5 most recent games, with the win coming at home over Lazio in Serie A.

There was also a 2-2 draw away to Sassuolo but there have been defeats at home to Napoli and away to Fiorentina in the league.

Trends show Salernitana have recorded only 2 wins from their last 26 away Serie A fixtures. Salernitana have conceded 2 or more goals in 8 of their 10 most recent away league matches.

Team news and Atalanta are without the injured trio of Gianluca Scamacca, Jose Luis Palomino, and El Bilal Touré. There are also doubts over the fitness of Rafael Toloi.

Salernitana make the trip to Bergamo without suspended defender Federico Fazio. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is out with a shoulder injury.

Atalanta, despite struggling to win recent Serie A matches, come into this game as the clear favourites to pick up maximum points.

Salernitana have a poor away record and although they may find the back of the net, conceding goals is a problem, and Atalanta should come out on top.
