Free-scoring Spurs ready to pile more pressure on Cooper and Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper will continue to fight for his job when Tottenham Hotspur visit the City Ground on Friday night.

With 16 matches in the books, Forest find themselves 16th in the table – five points outside the relegation zone and 16 points behind Tottenham.

At the opposite end of the standings, Spurs occupy fifth place. Not only do Ange Postecoglou’s team sit three points shy of the top four, but they also sit just seven points shy of table-topping Liverpool.

Last weekend, Nottingham Forest ended a run of four straight defeats with a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Following a humiliating 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Fulham in midweek, it was vital that Forest stopped the rot and picked up a precious point on the road.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Tricky Trees have managed to win just three of their 16 Premier League games this season, recording five draws and eight losses.

That said, Cooper’s men have lost only seven of their 26 home games since gaining promotion, so they will fancy their chances of frustrating Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Spurs secured an impressive 4-1 victory over Newcastle United last time out, scoring two goals in either half to heap more misery on the Magpies.

Postecoglou’s side started the season in red-hot form, chalking up a 10-game unbeaten streak of eight wins and two draws, but they swiftly suffered four defeats in their next five matches.

Thanks to Sunday’s demolition of Newcastle, however, Tottenham will back themselves to rediscover their early-season form at the expense of struggling Forest.

It is also worth noting that Spurs have suffered a solitary defeat in their previous 10 away games across all competitions, underlining their strength on the road.

Head-to-head: Tottenham did the league double over Forest last season, winning 2-0 at the City Ground before winning 3-1 in the capital.

Not only have Spurs won four of their last five meetings with the Tricky Trees, but they have also won six of their previous eight.

Team news: Nottingham Forest are currently without injured pair Taiwo Awoniyi and Serge Aurier, while Murillo is a doubt for Friday’s clash.

Tottenham’s lengthy injury list contains Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon and Eric Dier.

Although Forest have enjoyed plenty of success at the City Ground in recent times, Tottenham should be too strong for the hosts on this occasion.

Forebet predicts that Tottenham Hotspur will score over 2.5 goals on their way to securing a comfortable victory over Nottingham Forest.
