Having both recorded draws in the Champions League in midweek, Newcastle United and Manchester United return to Premier League action at St. James’ Park on Saturday night.

The Magpies held Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 draw in France, while the Red Devils played out a wild six-goal thriller with Galatasaray in Turkey.

With a solitary point separating seventh-placed Newcastle and sixth-placed Man Utd in the Premier League table, Saturday’s showdown promises to be an intriguing affair.

Newcastle came agonisingly close to claiming all three points against PSG on Tuesday, only to concede a 98th-minute penalty converted by Kylian Mbappe.

Despite seeing just 27% possession while facing a barrage of 31 shots, Eddie Howe’s men can count themselves unfortunate to have come away with a draw.

In the Premier League, the Magpies have lost just one of their previous nine matches, picking up six wins and two draws in the process.

Better still, Newcastle have won each of their last five home league games, extending their hot streak with a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea last weekend.

As for Manchester United, they led 2-0 and 3-1 against Galatasaray on Wednesday, but a succession of blunders from goalkeeper Andre Onana saw them draw 3-3 in Istanbul.

Believe it or not, that was Man Utd’s first draw of the season, with a record of 10 wins and nine defeats highlighting the team’s inconsistency.

That said, Erik ten Hag’s men have enjoyed plenty of success in the Premier League of late, securing three straight victories over Fulham, Luton and Everton.

Having also won five of their previous six league outings, the Red Devils will fancy their chances of silencing the St. James’ Park faithful on Saturday.

Head-to-head: Newcastle have already defeated Man Utd twice in 2023, claiming a 2-0 league victory back in April before securing 3-0 EFL Cup win on November 1.

Still, the Red Devils can take confidence from the fact that they have lost just one of their previous seven Premier League meetings with the Magpies.

Team news: Newcastle are blighted with injuries, meaning Dan Burn, Jacob Murphy, Callum Wilson, Elliot Anderson, Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock and Matt Targett will miss Saturday’s clash.

Man Utd have several injury absentees of their own, including Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia.

If recent results are anything to go by, we should see plenty of goals at St. James’ Park, with both sides battling to remain within touching distance of the top four.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle and Manchester United will combine for over 4.5 goals, with the visitors edging out the hosts on this occasion.
