Switzerland will aim to maintain their unbeaten record in Euro 2024 qualifying when they take on Group I rivals Israel in Hungary on Wednesday.
The Swiss find themselves second in Group I – one point shy of Romania – having played a game fewer than the group leaders.
As for Israel, they trail Switzerland by four points in the standings, although Alon Hazan’s side also have a game in hand on the rest of the group.
Israel head into Wednesday’s clash on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Kosovo, despite racking up 67% possession and nine shots on Sunday.
That loss ended a four-game unbeaten streak for Hazan’s men, who registered three wins and one draw before falling to Kosovo in Prishtina.
Israel have now lost two of their seven Euro 2024 qualifiers, picking up three wins and two draws in the process.
That said, Hazan’s side have only managed to score seven goals in as many games, conceding eight along the way. As a result, they have a negative goal difference.
On top flip side, Switzerland remain unbeaten in Group I, having won four and drawn three of their seven qualifiers.
Although the Red Crosses have drawn three of their previous four matches, they remain in control of their own qualification destiny.
It is also worth noting that Murat Yakin’s men have scored a whopping 20 goals in seven qualifiers, meaning they are averaging 2.9 goals per game.
Only Portugal have netted more goals than Switzerland during the current qualifying campaign, and the Red Crosses have played a game fewer than the Portuguese.
Head-to-head: Switzerland defeat Israel 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in March, with the hosts racking up 69% possession and 16 shots in Geneva.
When you look at the bigger picture, Israel have managed to win just one of their 10 previous meetings with the Swiss over the years.
Team news: Israel will be without the suspended Roy Revivo on Wednesday after the 20-year-old defender picked up a red card last time out.
As for Switzerland, Zeki Amdouni will aim to score his seventh goal of the qualifying campaign, while Remo Freuler will bid to enhance his tally of two goals and two assists.
When you couple Switzerland’s current unbeaten run with their historical success in this fixture, all the signs point towards a tough evening for Israel.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Switzerland will score over 2.5 goals on their way to dispatching Israel in Hungary.
