Genoa went unbeaten in their last two meetings in all competitions against Salernitana. On Friday night, the Grifone are aiming for a third straight match without a defeat against the Granata.

Genoa are 15th in the Serie A standings, as they look to solidify their place in the top flight following promotion from Serie B last season.

Results have not been good recently for Alberto Gilardino’s team. Genoa are winless in three straight Serie A games, suffering two defeats and a draw.

Salernitana are worse off on the table, making this weekend’s match an early season relegation six-pointer.

The Granata are one of three Serie A teams that have not won a fixture. They go into the weekend winless in nine straight matches.

No team has conceded as many goals this season as Salernitana’s 19. Genoa, on the other hand, have allowed 14 goals to opponents.

The Grifone have 10 goals scored, while Salernitana scored six goals in nine matches.

Exactly half of Genoa’s points (four) have come from home matches. They were outscored 8-7 in their four home fixtures.

Salernitana are Serie A’s worst away team at this point of the campaign. The Granata picked up one point from 12 points on offer, scoring just two goals and conceding eight times. Each of Salernitana’s last three away games ended in defeat.

Just two players occupy Gilardino’s injury list at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Winger Junior Messias is unlikely to play due to an ankle injury. Joining him on the sidelines could be Mateo Retegui. The forward has a knee injury that could keep him out of action once more.

Salernitana dismissed coach Paulo Sousa during the October international break. The club hired former AC Milan striker and coach Filippo Inzaghi to lead the team. Inzaghi has no fresh injury issues and can select from a fully fit squad for the game.

Forward Boulaye Dia scored three of Salernitana’s six team goals. The Senegal forward will be nailed on to start the match at Genoa. He could be their best hope in the final third.

Genoa are led in goals by Albert Gudmundsson and Retegui, with three apiece. If Retegui misses the match through injury, it will be a blow to Genoa’s attack.

Genoa should make the most of playing at home against the Serie A’s worst away team, Salernitana.

It will be a close game, but Genoa will pull off a 2-1 win over their relegation rival.
