Lyon and Monaco will kick-start Matchday 36 of the 2022-23 Ligue 1 campaign when they lock horns at Groupama Stadium on Friday night.

The two sides are separated by nine points in the French top flight, with seventh-placed Lyon trailing fourth-placed Monaco.

Sitting four points outside the top five with three games remaining, Lyon will be hopeful of breaking into the European places. Monaco, on the other hand, find themselves eight points shy of the top three.

Lyon head into Friday’s showdown on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Clermont Foot. That said, they have picked up plenty of positive results of late.

Not only have OL won five of their last seven league matches, but they have also lost just two of their previous 11, picking up six wins and three draws in that time.

Better still, Lyon have claimed nine victories across their past 16 Ligue 1 encounters, remaining within touching distance of the European spots in the process.

Having suffered a solitary defeat in their last seven home games – clinching a memorable 5-4 victory over Montpellier last time out – OL will back themselves to frustrate Monaco.

The Monegasques looked destined to secure Champions League football following a nine-game unbeaten streak between December and February.

However, Monaco have been wildly inconsistent since then, recording four wins, three draws and four losses in their previous 11 encounters.

Following back-to-back defeats to Lens and Montpellier, Monaco defeated Angers before recording a goalless draw with Lille last time out, meaning they have taken four points from a possible 12.

That said, the Monegasques have been immense on the road this season, recording 10 wins, five draws and two losses in 17 away league outings.

Head-to-head: Across all competitions, Lyon and Monaco have both won five of the previous 10 meetings between the teams.

Given that 11 of the past 15 meetings have produced over 2.5 goals, Lyon and Monaco are expected to dish up plenty of action on Friday.

Team news: Lyon look set to be without the injured Jerome Boateng on Friday, while Bradley Barcola is a doubt due to illness.

As for Monaco, they are expected to make the trip to Groupama Stadium without the injured duo of Mohamed Camara and Malang Sarr.

If recent meetings between these two sides are anything to go by, Friday’s showdown is destined to be a lively affair with goals at both ends of the pitch.

Forebet predicts that Lyon and Monaco will dish up a high-scoring draw, with both teams netting over 1.5 goals.
