Betis Set to Edge Past Vallecano With 5 La Liga Games Left
Real Betis vs Rayo Vallecano - 15/05/2023
3504
Sixth and ninth in La Liga will clash this weekend with Real Betis still hoping for a finish in the top four this season with Rayo Vallecano eyeing up seventh in the Spanish top flight after another impressive season.
Betis are very unlikely to finish in the top four this season, but with 15 points still to play for in the final five games of the campaign, they can still mathematically make up the nine points they have on Real Sociedad in fourth. It is, of course, doubtful, and they will merely be aiming to finish in sixth or fifth this season.
Because of Real Madrid’s triumph in the Copa del Rey, it does now mean seventh will get a spot in the Europa Conference League and sixth and fifth finish in a Europa League spot.
It does also mean that Betis should get at least one of the European spots, and if it doesn’t, it would be nothing short of disastrous after spending practically the whole season in the top six.
The club have won 15 times now and lost only 11 games and with just 37 goals conceded, they remain a solid team defensively.
The club did lose 4-0 to Barcelona a few weeks back but went on to defeat Athletic Club 1-0 in a fantastic away victory.
It now means Manuel Pellegrini's side are five points clear of Athletic Club in eighth and a victory here would be arguably their biggest step into a spot in the Europa League for next season.
As for Vallecano, they are aiming to finish in their highest spot in La Liga for a number of years after finishing 12th last campaign in what was their first back in the Spanish top flight.
They have now lost the same amount of games as Betis with 11 each, although they come into this game with just a six-point gap on the sixth-placed side.
It means a spot in Europe for the Madrid outfit is still well and truly on if they can secure a win in this game, as this would cut the gap to three points on Betis.
Vallecano have had a strange few weeks in La Liga, as they managed to stun the league leaders Barcelona in a fantastic 2-1 victory, as Barcelona continue to have the best defensive record on the planet right now. However, the club then went on to lose 4-0 to last-placed Elche.
Forebet predicts a Betis win and over 2.5 goals.
