Inter Milan defeated Bologna 6-1 earlier this season. After going down a goal in the 22nd minute, the Nerazzurri stormed back thanks to two goals from Federico Dimarco, and one each from Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Robin Gosens.
The teams will meet once more on Sunday in Bologna, as Inter seek a fifth straight match without defeat in Serie A. The Nerazzurri are in good form and are coming off a 1-0 win against FC Porto in their Champions League last-16 first leg.
Inter are second in Serie A but 15 points behind league leader Napoli. The Nerazzurri will have much of their focus on the Champions League and Coppa Italia for the rest of the season.
Simone Inzaghi’s team took 13 points from the last 18 points on offer in Serie A. Inter struggled in front of goal, however. Just seven goals were scored in Inter’s last six league matches. The defence continues to play well, as only three goals were allowed by Inter during that time.
Bologna are in fantastic form. They picked up 13 points from the last 18 points on offer. The Rossoblu scored nine goals and conceded five times across the last six matches.
Coach Thiago Motta has Bologna up to eighth place in the standings. However, the team is still nine points off the European places.
Bologna play well at home and have a record of 5W-4D-3L and a goal difference of +6. Inter, on the other hand, have an away record of 5W-2D-4L. The Nerazzurri have a goal difference of –2 away from home.
Motta will be without at least three players for the match on Sunday, as Adama Soumaoro, Joshua Zirkee, and Nicola Bagnolini are all ruled out with injuries. Forward Nicola Sansone is a doubt following a hand injury. Defender Kevin Bonifazi is a doubt following a tendon injury.
Inzaghi has just one injury concern, as forward Joaquin Correa is out of action with a thigh injury. The Inter coach may need to rotate the starting XI following the team’s Champions League last 16 first leg in midweek. Romelu Lukaku could start the game after scoring the winner versus FC Porto.
Inter should win once more in Serie A against Bologna, but Sunday’s match will be closer than the reverse fixture. The Nerazzurri should still ease by Bologna by a 2-0 score. Bologna will keep the match close but ultimately fall to defeat.
