Arsenal and Man City poised for pivotal Premier League showdown

Manchester City can move level with Premier League leaders Arsenal when Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola renew acquaintances at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

As it stands, Manchester City find themselves three points behind the Gunners, who have a game in hand on their title rivals.

Both sides have dropped points in recent weeks, making Wednesday’s clash all the more important when it comes to determining the champions in May.

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford last time out, although Ivan Toney’s equaliser should not have stood following a mistake from the video assistant referee.

The Gunners have now failed to win three of their past five Premier League outings, although they did beat Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United last month.

When you look at the bigger picture, however, Arteta’s side have only lost two of their 21 league matches this term – picking up 16 wins and three draws in the process.

It is also worth noting that Arsenal boast the second-best defensive record in the division, having conceded just 18 goals this season (0.86 goals against per game).

As for Manchester City, they beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Sunday, meaning they have now won three of their previous four Premier League outings.

Having failed to win three of their last seven league games, however, Guardiola’s men find themselves just two points above third-placed Manchester United.

It is worth pointing out that City have lost four of their last 13 Premier League matches, which doesn’t happen very often under Guardiola.

Still, the Cityzens are the top scorers in the division by some distance, having netted a whopping 56 goals in 22 games (2.54 goals per game).

Head-to-head: Following last month’s 1-0 win against Arsenal in the FA Cup, Man City have won each of their last six meetings with the Gunners.

To make matters worse for Arteta’s side, City have won 13 of their previous 14 matches against Arsenal across all competitions.

Team news: Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny remain injured for Arsenal, while Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson are doubts for Wednesday.

Erling Haaland is a doubt for Man City after coming off at half time against Villa, while John Stones is sidelined due to injury.

Although Man City have dominated this fixture in recent years, there is no hiding the fact that Arsenal are a different animal this season.

Forebet predicts that Arsenal will claim all three points on Wednesday, with the hosts scoring over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
