Real Madrid set for narrow victory over Valencia

Real Madrid welcome Valencia to the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday night, with 22 points between the teams in the La Liga table.

Valencia find themselves fourteenth in the standings and recently sacked manager Gennaro Gattuso following a run of poor results.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid occupy second place – five points behind Barcelona – having lost just two of their 18 league matches this season.

Los Blancos kicked off their La Liga campaign with a 12-game unbeaten streak, picking up 10 wins and two draws to set the pace in the title race.

However, they have struggled for consistency since then – recording three wins, one draw and two losses in their previous six league outings.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side were held to a goalless draw by Real Sociedad last time out, despite racking up 20 shots and 62% possession on home soil.

Still, they will be confident of retuning to winning ways against Valencia, who find themselves in the bottom half of the table after sacking Gattuso.

Valencia have only managed to win five of their 18 La Liga encounters this season, registering five draws and eight losses along the way.

Only four sides in the division have claimed fewer victories this term, while only five teams have suffered more defeats.

Not only have Valencia failed to win any of their last four league games, but they have also failed to win nine of their previous 10 – suffering five losses in the process.

Having suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Valladolid last time out, Valencia are searching for a new manager.

Head-to-head: Following a 1-1 draw in normal time, Real Madrid beat Valencia 4-3 on penalties in the Supercopa de Espana semi-finals in early January.

As a result, Los Blancos have only lost one of their past eight meetings with Valencia across all competitions.

Team news: Real Madrid will be without the injured trio of Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez on Thursday, while David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni are doubts.

As for Valencia, they will be without Nico Gonzalez for the trip to the capital as the midfielder continues to recover from a foot injury.

When you couple the 22-point gulf between these two sides with Real Madrid’s recent record against Valencia, all the signs point towards a home victory here.

Forebet predicts that Real Madrid will keep a clean sheet on their way to overcoming Valencia on home soil.
