Frankfurt can improve European hopes with Mainz win

Eintracht Frankfurt have been one of the surprise packages of a very surprisingly Bundesliga campaign so far. On Tuesday night they host eighth place Mainz and could move into the top three of the Bundesliga table with a victory.

Niko Kovac’s side have been in good form of late, having suffered defeat in just one of their last nine Bundesliga games. A big part of Frankfurt’s good season so far has been their stellar home record, as they are also unbeaten in their last nine home Bundesliga games.

In fact, the home side have suffered just one league defeat in their last 14 home league outings, so Kovac’s side will be confident of another home victory in this clash. However, they do not have a great recent record against Mainz, having won just two of the last nine meetings between the two teams in all competitions.

By contrast Mainz’s away form has been poor, as they have suffered defeat in their last four away games in the Bundesliga and have won just one of their last six away games in the German top-flight.

Despite that poor recent away form, Martin Schmidt’s side are still eighth place in the table, only six points behind their opponents in the table. A win would put Mainz right back in the mix for a place in the top-six.

Mainz have won on just one of their eight visits to Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, so their recent record at Frankfurt is poor, despite their overall superiority in all competitions. Mainz boss Schmidt has faced Frankfurt on 3 occasions, winning twice and losing one, while Frankfurt boss Kovac has won his only encounter with Mainz.

Forebet predicts that Frankfurt will record a victory in this clash to improve their chances of claiming an unlikely European spot this season.
