Real Sociedad set to heap more misery on struggling Sevilla

Sevilla will desperately aim to kick-start their La Liga campaign when they host Real Sociedad at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Wednesday night.

With just game left before the World Cup break, Jorge Sampaoli’s strugglers find themselves fourth from bottom in the table – having taken just 11 points from a possible 39.

At the opposite end of the standings, Real Sociedad sit sixth – 12 points clear of Sevilla and one point outside the top four.

Sevilla have only managed to win two of their 13 La Liga games this season, registering five draws and six losses in the process.

Only last-place Elche have picked up fewer wins than Sevilla, while only Espanyol have recorded more draws. That tells you everything you need to know about their poor form.

Not only have the Andalusians failed to win any of their last four league outings, but they have also failed to win seven of their previous eight.

When you look at the bigger picture, Sevilla have managed to win just four of their past 24 games in all competitions. Needless to say, that is not good enough.

As for Real Sociedad, they have lost just four of their 13 La Liga games this season – collecting seven wins and two draws along the way.

Only the top two – Real Madrid and Barcelona – have claimed more La Liga victories than Imanol’s men this term, while only two sides have registered fewer draws.

Sociedad have won five of their previous eight league outings, although they head into Wednesday’s clash on a three-game winless run – having recorded one draw and two losses.

It is also worth noting that each of Sociedad’s last six games in all competitions have dished up under 2.5 goals. A low-scoring game is on the cards on Wednesday.

Head-to-head: Sociedad have only managed to win one of their last 12 La Liga meetings with Sevilla, although that could change this time around.

The teams played out two goalless draw last season, meaning we shouldn’t see a ton of goals at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Team news: Sevilla right-back Gonzalo Montiel will miss Wednesday’s clash through suspension after picking up a red card in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis.

Real Sociedad will be without Aritz Elustondo for the same reason, while Mikel Oyarzabal, Sadiiq Umar, Ander Martin, Mohamed Ali Cho and Aihen Munoz are all injured.

Sociedad will view Wednesday’s clash with struggling Sevilla as the perfect opportunity return to winning ways after a few bad results.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Real Sociedad will claim all three points. The visitors are also expected to keep a clean sheet.
