In the midst of Juventus’ worst start to a Serie A season since coming back into the division over a decade ago they sit eighth and welcome 10th-placed Empoli to the Allianz Stadium on Friday night with Max Allegri staring deep into the face of the sack if he cannot win this game.
Juventus have been terrible by usual standards in Serie A this season, and despite finishing fourth last time out in what was their worst finish in over 10 years, they are now in eighth and seemingly sit out of the title race already.
What’s more, the Old Lady have found themselves struggling to get wins and progress in their Champions League group games as well with there a high chance of them dropping into the Europa League in the forthcoming weeks.
In fact, Juventus now sit 10 points behind the league leaders Napoli and six behind third-placed champions, AC Milan.
This, combined with the poor performances in Europe does make Allegri a lucky man to still be at the helm of the club, especially as they have only managed to score 13 goals so far in Serie A with just four wins, four draws and two losses.
Dusan Vlahovic has been somewhat of a shining light in this dark time for the club, however, as he managed to score the game’s only goal in a Turin derby against rivals Torino last weekend.
However, this cannot overlook the fact Juventus lost 2-0 to Milan in Serie A in arguably their biggest game of the season so far, before then going on to lose to Maccabi Haifa 2-0 in the Champions League in what was perhaps their worst-ever Champions League display in recent years.
Empoli are just two places behind the serial Serie A winners in the table right now and they returned to winning ways last weekend when they beat the newly-promoted Monza thanks to a goal from Nicolas Haas in the first half - this comes just three weeks after Monza beat Juventus.
Empoli sit 10th in the league and are just five points behind Juventus, and they can begin to eye up a spot in the top eight if they can win in Turin.
However, the club have scored just nine in Serie A so far, conceding 11 in the process. On the other hand, this is a better defensive record than Inter Milan who sit just above Juventus in seventh.
Forebet are predicting a Juventus win and over 2.5 goals.
