Saturday evening features this upcoming clash between Spezia and Sampdoria in the Italian top flight when the two teams meet at the Stadio Alberto Picco with both teams heading into this encounter on the back of losses in Serie A.
Spezia started their Serie A campaign in positive fashion as the hosts recorded a 1-0 home win against Empoli to hand them the perfect start.
But since then, overall results have taken a nose-dive where Spezia have been concerned, failing to win any of their subsequent five games which includes three defeats.
Losses to Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli have pegged the hosts back but it’s worth mentioning that all three of these losses were incurred away from home while Spezia also picked up points in draws with Sassuolo and Bologna, which were both on home soil at their Stadio Alberto Picco.
Switch to results at home and you’ll see that Spezia are unbeaten in their last three games having beaten Empoli and the two aforementioned draws.
And although they’d suffered four defeats beforehand, the hosts have held the upper hand in recent exchanges at home against Sampdoria winning 1-0 and 2-1 respectively.
Onto Sampdoria, and the visitors have fared even worse than their hosts as they’ve failed to win any of their opening six games of this new Serie A season being handed no fewer than four defeats in the process.
Defeats to Atalanta, Salernitana, Verona and AC Milan have given Sampdoria a poor start to this new campaign and although they’ve picked up points in draws with Juventus and Lazio, Sampdoria find themselves sitting a disappointing second from bottom in the Serie A standings.
The bigger picture shows Sampdoria have managed to win just two of their last 14 matches overall in the domestic top flight, both of which were gained on home soil at their Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris with wins against Genoa and Fiorentina but they’ve also been handed nine defeats as well.
Results away from home have been even more disappointing where Sampdoria have been concerned as the visitors have registered just one win out of their previous 13 outings on the road which also includes 10 defeats, so the prospects of a positive result at Spezia seem fairly remote.
Spezia have won the previous two meetings at home against Sampdoria and this trend could continue on Saturday.
