Hamburger set for second straight Bundesliga 2 win

Hamburger have been stuck in the Bundesliga 2 since suffering relegation in 2018. The Red Shorts started the new Bundesliga 2 season with a 2-0 win against Eintracht Braunschweig.

Now, coach Tim Walter takes Hamburger into their first home match of the campaign versus Hansa Rostock. Robert Glatzel scored twice for Hamburger on matchday No. 1 and the striker goes into the game in excellent form for Hamburger.

Hansa Rostock fell to 1-0 loss against Heidenheim on matchday No. 1. Coach Jens Hartel led Hansa Rostock to a 13th place finish in 2021-22. They finished just nine points ahead of the bottom three.

Hamburger ended last season in third place and qualified for the promotion playoffs. The Red Shorts lost the playoff to Bundesliga team Hertha Berlin.

Walter set out Hamburger in a 4-3-3 formation against Braunschweig. While Glatzel got two goals, the assists were provided by Mario Vuskovic and Xavier Amaechi. Amaechi came off the bench to assist a goal and is in line to start the game.

Hamburger could be without Elijah Krahn and Anssi Suhonen due to injury. Vuskovic will be in line to start along with midfielder Laszlo Benes. Both players arrived on transfer this summer.

The Red Shorts have spent heavily for a Bundesliga 2 side as they attempt to finally get out of the second division.

This could finally be the time Hamburger gain automatic promotion back to the Bundesliga.

Hansa Rostock’s big signing in the offseason was Sebastian Thill, who arrived from high-flying Sheriff Tiraspol.

He failed to failed to find the back of the net after starting in central midfield for Hansa. As it stands, Thill is nursing an ankle injury and is a major doubt for the game.

While Hamburger have made big signings in the Bundesliga 2, Hansa Rostock’s additions have been more modest.

Coach Hartel used a 3-5-2 formation on matchday No. 1. He is likely to use it once more despite Hansa failing to score last time out.

Hansa Rostock left wing Maurice Litka and left-back Felix Ruschke are both likely to miss the match on Sunday. Both are suffering from injuries.

Hamburger started the new season well and should come away from a first home game of 2022-23 with a victory.

The Red Shorts should win 2-1 to potentially move to the top of the league standings. Glatzel scored twice on matchday No. 1 and could get back on the scoresheet this weekend.
