Arsenal ready to secure Champions League football at Tottenham’s expense

On Thursday night, arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal clash in a potentially season-defining North London Derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The two sides are separated by four points in the Premier League table, with fifth-place Tottenham trailing fourth-place Arsenal.

With only three games remaining this term, the Gunners can secure Champions League football for next season with a win. However, a Spurs victory would leave the top-four race wide open.

Tottenham head into the North London Derby on the back of an impressive 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, despite seeing just 35% possession.

Son Heung-min gave Spurs the lead on Merseyside, notching his 20th Premier League goal of the campaign.

Thanks to last weekend’s victory, Antonio Conte’s side have lost just one of their previous eight Premier League outings – picking up five wins and two draws along the way.

It is also worth pointing out that Tottenham have won eight of their last 13 league matches, scoring over 2.5 goals on seven occasions in that time.

On the flip side, Arsenal beat Leeds United 2-1 last time out. Eddie Nketiah bagged a brace inside ten minutes before Luke Ayling saw red midway through the second half.

The Gunners have now won each of their past four league games, having dispatched Chelsea (4-2), Manchester United (3-1) and West Ham United (2-1) before beating Leeds.

It is also worth noting that Mikel Arteta’s team have won ten of their previous 14 Premier League encounters.

Although six teams have scored more Premier League goals than Arsenal this term, it is worth noting that Arteta’s men have netted over 1.5 goals in each of their last four outings.

Head-to-head: Arsenal are enjoying a two-game winning streak against Tottenham, having claimed a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in September.

That said, the recent head-to-head record in the North London Derby is extremely even. Both sides have won two of the last six meetings, along with two draws.

Team news: Tottenham will be without the injured quartet of Japhet Tanganga, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon and Oliver Skipp on Thursday.

As for Arsenal, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey look set to miss the rest of the season through injury. There are also doubts over the fitness of Ben White.

Regardless of Tottenham’s impressive draw with Liverpool, in-form Arsenal will be ready to rise to the occasion on Thursday.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Arsenal will score over 2.5 goals on their way dispatching Spurs – securing Champions League football in the process.
