Deportivo Alavés to Move Within Touching Distance of Relegation With a Loss at Celta Vigo
2532

The Estadio de Balaídos will play hosts to one of the biggest games of the season in La Liga down at the bottom because while there is nothing to play for with Celta Vigo, Deportivo Alaves could find themselves within touching distance of relegation with a defeat.

There are now 12 points left on the table for the Álava club to get out of this mess, and their attention turns towards hoping 17th-placed Cadiz fail to beat Elche with Alaves also needing to win here.

There is a four point gap on the safe spot in 17th, and if they lose here and Cadiz win, the gap will be seven with only nine points left, meaning they could then be relegated next week when they meet with Espanyol.

What will give Alaves some hope, however, is their run in. From now until the season finale, they meet with a team outside of the top 10, with Celta Vigo here, 14th-placed Espanyol next, then bottom-placed Levante, before closing out the season with a battle against fellow relegation rival, Cadiz. Their hope will be that they are not relegated by then.

Alaves are going out swinging at least, and since the dismissal of manager José Luis Mendilibar, they've picked up a little bit of form. They would lose to Osasuna soon after the sacking, but with victories coming against Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal thereafter, new manager, Julio Velázquez, has got them playing a bit.

In the last game against Villarreal, Victor Laguardia and Gonzalo Escalante were the heroes, and they’re going to need all hands on deck to get past a Celta Vigo side hungry to return to winning ways and get back in the top 10.

There is no real significance to the final four games for the club here, but with them finishing a commendable eighth last season, they'll be hoping for a top half finish with them only doing that once within the past five campaigns.

Celta Vigo are also winless since Athletic Club back in mid-April, with them only registering two wins in the past two months after also beating Mallorca back in early March.

They have, however, only lost twice at home since losing to Valencia on their own patch back in December, and this should give them the edge here against a desperate Alaves side.

Forebet predicts Celta Vigo will return to the win column here, and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
