Fresh from punching their ticket to the Champions League final in dramatic fashion, Real Madrid return to La Liga action against arch-rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
Los Blancos have already wrapped up the La Liga title. With four games remaining this season, they hold an unassailable 15-point lead over second-place Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Atletico are still fighting to secure Champions League football for next season. They currently sit fourth in the table – three points ahead of fifth-place Real Betis.
Atletico were beating 2-0 by Athletic Bilbao last weekend, meaning they have managed to win just one of their last four La Liga outings.
When you look at the bigger picture, Diego Simeone’s side have only managed to pick up one victory in their previous six games across all competitions.
Although Atleti are the third-highest scorers in the division, it is worth noting that they have the worst defensive record in the top eight.
That said, they have avoided defeat in each of their last seven home games in all competitions, so they will fancy their chances of frustrating Real Madrid.
As for Los Blancos, they came from behind to knock Manchester City out of the Champions League semi-finals in dramatic circumstances on Wednesday.
Trailing 5-3 on aggregate heading into injury time, Rodrygo bagged a two-minute brace to send the game to extra-time before Karim Benzema netted the winner.
Thanks to Wednesday’s stunning comeback, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have now won 12 of their previous 15 outings across all competitions.
It is also worth noting that Real Madrid have lost just three of their 34 La Liga games this season, scoring 73 goals along the way (2.15 goals per game).
Head-to-head: Atletico Madrid have failed to win any of their past 11 La Liga encounters against Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have won three of the previous four league meetings between them and Atletico, scoring over 1.5 goals on two occasions during that period.
Team news: Atleti look set to be without the injured trio of Jose Maria Gimenez, Joao Felix and Thomas Lemar on Sunday.
On the flip side, Real Madrid currently have Eden Hazard (fibula) and Gareth Bale (back) sidelined through injury.
Although Real Madrid have already secured the La Liga title, they will be desperate to beat their cross-city rivals and end the campaign on a high note.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Real Madrid will score over 1.5 goals on their way to beating Atletico.
