Marseille to return to winning ways against Nantes

Wednesday evening brings us further action from the French top flight and features this upcoming clash between 2nd placed Marseille and their mid-table visitors, Nantes, when the two teams meet at the Stade Orange Vélodrome.
Marseille’s impressive four-match winning streak was brought to an abrupt halt last time out in Ligue 1 when they were dealt a 2-1 defeat away from home at the runaway Ligue 1 leaders, PSG, but having registered recent wins against Brest, Nice, St Etienne and Montpellier, Marseille will be confident that they can return to winning ways on Wednesday night.
Marseille’s recent flurry of league wins has at least placed the hosts in the box seat for the second automatic Champions League spot for next season but with the likes of Rennes and Nice hot on their heels, Marseille know they can ill afford another slip-up against Nantes.
Results and form at home have been fairly steady though for Marseille who have lost just three of their last 12 games on home soil, winning five of these along with winning two of the last three meetings against Nantes as well.
Despite being unbeaten in their last three matches in Ligue 1, Wednesday’s visitors, Nantes, have slipped down to 10th place in the French top flight table due to back-to-back draws with Brest and Angers which followed an earlier 3-2 win away from home at Clermont.
Indeed, recent results have seen a resurgence in fortunes for Nantes who have suffered just the two defeats out of their last nine matches overall, losing 1-0 to both Troyes and Lille but also picking up four wins in the process as well.
Victories over Reims, PSG, Montpellier and Clermont have also lifted Nantes safely away from any relegation battles but it’s worth noting that three of the aforementioned for wins were achieved on home soil - only the latter victory was on the road.
Nantes have collected 13 wins in total so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign but nine of these have been recorded at home while wins on the road have been harder to come by.
Indeed, Nantes have managed just one win out of their last six outings on their travels and having also lost to high-flying Nice and Strasbourg, this could be another tough assignment for Nantes.
