Brest to get the upper hand over Lorient

Next up is a bottom half clash in the French top flight between 12th placed Brest and third from bottom outfit, Lorient, when the two teams meet at the Stade Francis-Le Blé with a precious three points up for grabs for both sides.

Following a purple patch of form in the domestic top flight from the end of October through to early December which saw Sunday’s hosts, Brest, put together an impressive six-match winning streak, the home side have been unable to sustain that excellent momentum in recent times.

Brest have picked up just a further two wins from their subsequent eight matches overall, losing four of these games but only two of these four losses were incurred on home soil at their Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Nevertheless, Brest will still feel confident about their chances of victory here this Sunday after having picked up notable wins against Monaco, Lens and Marseille while the more recent win against Lille will also serve as a useful boost as well.

Brest have won five of their last seven home games and they’re expected to just be missing reserve goalkeeper Cibois (achilles) for this clash.

Lorient currently sit third from bottom in Ligue 1 and therefore sit in the relegation play-off spot prior to Sunday’s trip to face Brest on the back of just one win from their previous 18 games overall.

Lorient will be hoping that they can pick up a result of sorts on Sunday but having only managed a 2-0 home win over Lens in the past few months, the prospects of a draw let alone an away win here for Lorient looks a distinct improbability.

11 defeats within these last 18 matches must surely have had a negative impact upon morale in the Lorient camp.

While the visitors also still remain the only team in the whole of Ligue 1 who have yet to record an away win so far in this campaign.

Five draws and eight defeats hardly instills much confidence in Lorient here, especially as they’ve lost seven out of their last eight games on the road as well.

While the bigger picture shows Lorient have now had to endure a 28-match winless run on their travels.

Lorient will also be missing defender Morel along with midfielders Diarra and Lemoine for this clash.

Brest look the more likely for the three points in this encounter.
