On Saturday evening, two of the teams battling for the European spots in the Bundesliga, Koln and Eintracht Frankfurt meet at the RheinEnergieStadion.
Koln have been one of the surprise packages of the Bundesliga campaign so far, as the Billy Goats currently sit eighth-place in the table, two points adrift of both the Champions League and Europa League spots in the German top-flight.
A recent poor run of league form has rather hindered their attempts at getting into the league’s top-six or even top-four.
A 3-1 defeat at RB Leipzig last time out means that Steffen Baumgart’s team have won just once in their last four Bundesliga matches.
However, in that recent run of games they have also faced Bayern Munich and Freiburg as well as Leipzig.
A key factor in Koln’s stellar campaign so far this season has been the prolific scoring form of club icon Anthony Modeste. The veteran forward has scored 14 goals in his 21 outings in the German top-flight this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt have enjoyed a rollercoaster campaign, but are currently just three points adrift of the leagues top-four.
The visitor’s form has dipped of late, as the Eagles have won just one of their last five matches in the Bundesliga, suffering three defeats in the process. Last time out they suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Wolfsburg.
The defeat saw Adi Hutter’s team concede at least two goals for the sixth time in their last nine matches in the German top-flight.
Despite that poor recent run of league form, Frankfurt have a respectable record on their travels of late, as Eintracht have won four of their last six away games in the Bundesliga.
They have also been potent away from home in the run, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six league matches on their travels.
Forebet predicts that Koln will boost their European challenge by recording a victory in a high-scoring encounter, denting the visitors top-six hopes in the process.
