Paris Saint-Germain will play hosts to Stade Rennais as Mauricio Pochettino’s men look to make it four wins on the bounce in the league for only the third time this season just as the away side aim for a break into the top four.

Rennais have been involved in the battle for the European spots all season long and the club are amongst the likes of Strasbourg and Nice in the fight for the Champions League against the odds, as they were expected to finish outside of the places once more.

Last campaign, the club ended up in sixth after finishing an incredible third the season prior, but now, however, is the season where they have seemingly established themselves as a regular in this area and much of it has come down to consistency and their excellent defence.

Rennais have regrouped well following a bit of a stumble that saw them lose to Monaco in a must-not-lose match around the European spots, before they were knocked out of the French Cup by Nancy and then lost to Lens in the league.

They have since gone on to thrash Bordeaux in one of the performances of the season from any Ligue 1 side, while they also breezed past Brest too after losing to relegation fighters, Clerment Foot.

As for PSG, it’s been a return to the top for them and things were made much sweeter as they thrashed the champions Lille on their own patch 5-1, and this result pretty much summarizes the change in guard between the two this campaign.

Lionel Messi got back on the scoresheet too with a fine finish, just as Kylian Mbappe did so too with an excellent long range curler.

Given PSG’s clear dominance in the league and the return to elite form from the likes of Messi and Mbappe, it’s extremely tough to see how Rennais can upset the odds here and get the result they need to keep on the tail of the top four, despite the solid form in their own right.

A win for Messi and co. also extends their unbeaten run to 15 games in the league since they, ironically, lost to Rennais back in October.

Forebet predicts a win for the league leaders here and a game of under 2.5 goals as the away side’s exceptional defensive record of just 21 goals conceded puts them as the fourth-best defensive side in Ligue 1.
