Lyon will be looking to take a much-need leap up the Ligue 1 table when they welcome Marseille to Groupama Stadium on Tuesday night.

Eleventh-place Lyon find themselves just inside the bottom half of the congested Ligue 1 standings. That said, they are only four points outside the top four.

Meanwhile, Marseille sit third in the table – nine points clear of Lyon and 13 points behind first-place Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s fair to say that Lyon made an indifferent start to the season. However, they have turned things around over the past couple of months.

Indeed, they head into Tuesday’s clash on a six-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 – having claimed back-to-back wins after four straight draws.

It is also worth noting that Lyon have kept three clean sheets in their last five league outings and come into this match on the back of two straight shutouts.

When you look at the bigger picture, Lyon have only lost one of their previous 11 home games in the French top flight.

Let’s not forget that Marseille are also enjoying an impressive run at the moment, having avoided defeat in each of their past five league games.

They have also lost just one of their previous 13 Ligue 1 clashes, picking up seven wins and five draws along the way.

With five clean sheets coming in their last five away games in Ligue 1, it is no surprise that Marseille boast the best defensive record in the division.

Marseille have also suffered just three defeats in their previous 23 league clashes, emphasizing their recent rise.

Head-to-head: Each the past two meetings between Lyon and Marseille have ended in a 1-1 draw, with each of the previous three meetings dishing up under 2.5 goals.

Marseille have only managed to win one of their last eight matches against Lyon in all competitions, suffering five defeats in the process.

Team news: Lyon have a number of injury absentees at the moment, including Sinaly Diomande, Jason Denayer, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Lenny Pintor.

On the flip side, Marseille will be without Senegal duo Pape Gueye and Bamba Dieng on Tuesday. Konrad de la Fuente is also expected to miss out through injury.

Judging by the recent results between these two sides, a low-scoring encounter is expected at Groupama Stadium.

Forebet predicts that Lyon and Marseille will play out a draw on Tuesday, with both teams scoring under 1.5 goals.
