Lille the more likely at Brest
Stade Brestois vs Lille OSC - 22/01/2022
2512
The French Ligue 1 action continues on Saturday with Brest playing host to Lille at their Stade Francis-Le Blé with the hosts looking to end their recent slump in the domestic top flight.
Brest still remain in the bottom half of Ligue 1 in 13th place as the hosts have experienced something of a disappointing drought in recent weeks, losing three out of their last four matches overall.
Losses to Montpellier 4-0 at home was followed by a 3-0 loss at home to Nice and a 2-0 defeat on the road at the runaway Ligue 1 leaders, PSG, last time out in league action means that Brest will be keen to set the record straight here on Saturday afternoon.
Brest had previously strung together an impressive six-match winning streak which included notable wins against Monaco and Marseille but their recent downturn in form and results have left many people scratching their heads in disbelief.
The bigger picture shows that Brest have managed to pick up just three home wins from their previous 15 games at their Stade Francis-Le Blé.
Lille currently occupy a mid-table position of 10th place on the Ligue 1 ladder as results over the past couple of months have seen the visitors make slow but steady progress in the domestic top flight.
With just one win from their opening six games of the Ligue 1 campaign, Lille had made a very slow and frankly, disappointing start to the season but they’ve gathered pace in the shape of putting together an eight-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1.
This improved sequence of results include wins against Rennes, Troyes and Bordeaux, while results on the road have also seen Lille make welcome improvements as they look to achieve a possible top five finish this term.
Lille are also unbeaten in their last four games on their travels while the bigger picture shows that Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side have suffered just four defeats from their previous 25 games on the road in the French top flight.
The visitors also know that all three points at Brest would see them put pressure on 5th placed Monaco as well.
Lille have lost just one of their last six meetings against Brest and the visitors could once again hold the upper hand over their opponents on Saturday.
