Goals at a premium when Real Sociedad host Villarreal

This weekend’s La Liga action features the clash between 5th placed Real Sociedad and 13th placed Villarreal when the two teams meet at the Reale Arena on Saturday afternoon with a valuable three points at stake for both sides.
Saturday’s hosts, Real Sociedad, still remain in 5th place despite losing their last three league matches on the trot in La Liga, suffering defeats to Espanyol, Real Madrid and Real Betis respectively, the latter being a heavy 4-0 thrashing on the road at the Estadio Benito Villamarín in Sevilla.
With a 0-0 draw at home to Valencia thrown into the mix, it’s now four matches without a win for the hosts while Real Sociedad have also failed to score in each of these previous four matches as well.
Results on home soil at their Reale Arena though have been far more consistent for Real Sociedad as they’ve lost just one of their last 11 matches but goals have been in short supply.
Nine of Real Sociedad’s last 11 home games have resulted in under 2.5 goals being scored.
Villarreal remain in a bottom half position of 13th place on the La Liga ladder despite recording a solid 2-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano on the weekend but that victory was only a second win in nine games overall for the visitors.
Villarreal had previously registered a 1-0 home win against Getafe but five defeats and two draws have prevented the visitors from lifting themselves up into the upper echelons of the Spanish top flight so far.
Losses to Osasuna, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, Barcelona and Sevilla have been a tough run of fixtures for Villarreal in recent times and these results have outweighed the points that they managed to pick up in draws with Cadiz and Celta Vigo in 3-3 and 1-1 stalemates respectively.
Villarreal still remain without an away win to their name as well so far this season as the visitors have lost three and have been held to five draws to date, so the prospects of an away win here this Saturday do seem remote.
However, the goals market appeals again here with six of Villarreal’s eight away games resulting in under 2.5 goals so far in this campaign and another low-scoring encounter looks to be in store this Saturday too.
