Real Madrid took a massive step toward the La Liga title on matchday 15 with a win versus title chasers Sevilla. After trailing early, Los Blancos came from behind to win 2-1 and open a four-point gap on Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid.

On Wednesday night, Real Madrid have another difficult challenge in La Liga as Athletic Club arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu. Athletic Club are winless in five straight La Liga matches and coming off of a matchday 15 draw with Granada, 2-2. It was their second straight stalemate in La Liga.

Real Madrid did the double of Athletic Club last season with a 3-1 home win and 1-0 victory away at San Mames. Los Blancos are unbeaten in 12 straight league matches versus Athletic Club. The Basque team’s last La Liga win versus Real Madrid was in 2014-15.

Athletic Club manager Marcelino will be without Inigo Martinez due to suspension. Asier Villalibre is injured with a hamstring problem and is a doubt to play. Daniel Vivian, Peru Nolaskoain, and Yuri Berchiche are all doubts due to injuries.

Carlo Ancelotti has two players on the injury list. Gareth Bale is a doubt to play while Dani Ceballos is likely to miss the fixture. Ceballos has not played since returning from last season’s loan at Arsenal due to an ankle injury.

Real Madrid are La Liga’s in-form team. They took 16 points from the last 18 available in La Liga, outscoring opponents 12-5. Los Blancos have taken 14 points from 18 at the Santiago Bernabeu this term.

Athletic Club took seven points from their last 18 in La Liga. They scored a mere six goals, but conceded just six to opponents. The Lions are unbeaten in six straight away matches in the league. Five straight away games ended in draws for Athletic Bilbao.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema is in brilliant form for the team this season. Benzema has scored 11 goals and tallied seven assists in 13 matches. He averages a goal in La Liga every 104 minutes.

Benzema has two goals in his last three La Liga games including a strike versus Sevilla on matchday 15. In 24 career matches against Athletic Club, Benzema has scored 14 goals.

Real Madrid are in form and dangerous. They can extend their lead over the La Liga title chasing pack this week with a win over Athletic Club.

Ancelotti should lead Los Blancos to the victory at home as both teams find the back of the net and over 2.5 goals are scored. Benzema could get one of those goals in the game.

Real Madrid are undefeated in 40 of their last 43 games all competitions and that figure will be extended.
