Second placed surprise-package in this season’s Ligue 1, Lens, will play host to mid-table outfit Reims at their Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Friday night with the hosts looking to keep in touch with the early runaway leaders of the French top flight, PSG.

Lens have made a promising start though to this new campaign as the hosts have lost just one of their opening eight games of this new Ligue 1 season which came in the shape of a surprising 1-0 defeat at home to Strasbourg.

Otherwise, Lens have won four of these eight games overall with victories gained over Monaco, Bordeaux, Lille and Marseille but it’s interesting to note that three of these four wins to date this term have been collected away from home.

Switch to results on home soil and you’ll find that Lens have managed to win just one of their previous six matches which came in the shape of a 1-0 home win against Lille, so perhaps the goals market appeals here as three of Lens’s last five home games have resulted in under 2.5 goals.

Onto Reims, and the visitors sit mid-table in the French Ligue 1 standings following their recent 3-1 home win over Nantes on the weekend which saw Reims bounce back from their previous 2-1 loss on the road at Lille.

Reims have managed to claim just two wins out of their opening eight matches in the French top flight overall which includes an earlier 2-0 win away from home at Rennes but these two wins have been Reims’s only highlight in their last 16 matches overall.

Six defeats and eight draws within these previous 16 games suggests that an away win for Reims at Lens seems unlikely, especially as Reims have won just one of their last seven away games in Ligue 1.

However goals could be in short supply on Friday night at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis as eight of their last 12 matches on the road in Ligue 1 have resulted in under 2.5 goals being scored.

With five clean sheets within this recent 12-match sequence, Reims may also play their part in producing a low-scoring affair on Friday night against Lens, while failing to score in four of these 12 games also indicates a possible tight encounter to start this weekend’s Ligue 1 action with.
