Everton CD and Palestino set for low-scoring stalemate in Chilean Primera
2190

Everton CD host Palestino on Thursday night in the Chilean Primera Division with the Clausura nearing its end.

Neither side is in the running for the Clausura title, but both clubs are aiming to finish the season strongly and move away from the bottom of the table.

The hosts go into the fixture on a wretched run of form in the Primera. Everton are winless in five straight games. Their last fixture, a 1-1 draw with Antofagasta, ended a four-match losing streak. Everton took just four points from the last 18 on offer.

Palestino took seven points from the last 18 on offer in the Primera. The visitors are coming off of a 3-0 win against third-place Universidad Catolica.

The reverse fixture between these clubs in 2021 finished 1-1. Palestino’s Bryan Carrasco scored from the penalty spot on 55 minutes. His goal was cancelled out in the 90th minute by Cristian Menendez. Palestino played much of the match with 10 men after Nicolas Berardo was sent off after 17 minutes.

Since 2017, Palestino have dominated their series of fixtures against Everton. Thursday night’s visitors have posted a record of 4W-1D-2L.

Everton are led in goals by Cecilio Waterman and Sebastian Pereira. The duo has combined for eight of Everton’s 16 goals. They have scored four goals apiece. Everton have scored the third-fewest goals in the Chilean Primera heading into this week’s round of games.

Palestino have racked up the goals this season with 25 in 18 matches. The club is led in goals by Luis Jimenez. The forward seven goals in 17 matches and has tallied 28% of the team’s goals. Carrasco, who scored in the reverse fixture, has added five goals to the Palestino cause.

Everton have taken 12 points from 27 on offer at home in 2021. They are –1 in goals scored with nine for and 10 against.

Palestino have recorded seven points from 27 on the road this season. The team is –5 in goal difference with 17 against and 12 for. Palestino are winless in their last six road games with five of those ending in losses.

These teams drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture this season and based on their form; a score draw is likely once more on Thursday night. Everton and Palestino should finish in a score draw with both sides finding the back of the net and under 2.5 goals. Another low-scoring game should be on the cards.
