Valencia will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2021/22 La Liga season when they welcome Deportivo Alaves to the Mestalla on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Alaves will be hoping to pick up their first points of the new campaign, having lost both of their opening two La Liga matches.

Despite Hugo Guillamon’s third-minute red card on the opening weekend, Valencia were able to hold on and beat Getafe 1-0.

Carlos Soler netted the only goal of the game from the penalty on 11 minutes, while Valencia ended the match with just 26% possession and faced a whopping 22 shots.

Once again, Soler bagged a penalty last time out – handing Valencia a much-deserved 1-1 draw with Granada.

Jose Bordalas’ men enjoyed the lion’s share of the ball last weekend and also chalked up 18 attempts – seven of which were on target.

In a run stretching back to last season, Valencia have only lost two of their previous eight La Liga matches (three wins, three draws).

If they carry on the way they are going, they will almost certainly improve on last term’s disappointing thirteenth-place finish.

On the flip side, Alaves were crushed 4-1 by Real Madrid on the opening weekend, with Joselu’s second-half penalty proving to be nothing more than a consolation goal.

Last time out, they were beaten 1-0 by Mallorca, despite having home advantage and dominating large spells of the game.

Following Ruben Duarte’s 66th-minute red card, Alaves collapsed and ended up conceding with ten minutes to play.

Alaves narrowly avoided relegation last term, finishing sixteenth – four points above the drop zone and five points behind Valencia.

If they continue to pick up where they left off in the previous campaign, they will surely flirt with relegation again this season.

Head-to-head: Interestingly, the last three matches between Valencia and Alaves have ended in a draw, with over 1.5 goals being scored on each occasion.

Alaves have only managed to win two of their previous ten meetings with Valencia, recording five defeats and three draws along the way.

Team news: Neither side has any injury worries at the moment, meaning both managers are set to field a full-strength starting XI on Friday.

When you consider the contrasting early-season form of Valencia and Alaves, all signs point towards a home win on Friday night.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Valencia will score over 1.5 goals on their way to seeing off Alaves at the Mestalla.
