Dortmund may have problems overcoming inconsistent Liverpool
For much of the campaign Liverpool have been highly inconsistent in the Premier League, but have been relatively consistent in the Europa League. Jurgen Klopp’s side were handed a very tough draw in the quarter-final of the competition by drawing favourites Dortmund.
The first leg at the Signal Iduna Park finished 1-1 in an end-to-end game. The second leg of the tie on Thursday at Anfield promises to be another exciting encounter. However the Reds will provide a big obstacle for BVB chances of winning the Europa League.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were in hot form prior to the draw in the first leg, but since the second leg Tuchel’s side have also drawn with Schalke in the Bundesliga. Two draws may not be disastrous, but they have hampered the German side’s momentum.
A trip to Anfield is not as daunting as it once was, but the European night on the red half of Merseyside can prove something special, even if those great European nights have previously came in the European Cup.
If Dortmund wants to win the Europa League this season then getting past former boss Klopp could be their toughest remaining challenge.
The Reds produced one of their most accomplished displays of the campaign in the first leg and followed that impressive performance with a 4-1 home mauling of Stoke City in the Premier League.
Dortmund are regarded as one of the best up-and-coming teams in European football, but very easily come unstuck on Merseyside on Thursday night.
